Biological Taxonomy Module?

Consider the extent to which we need a biological taxonomy module in addition to Drupal's built in taxonomy module. My prefences would be to NOT built a new module but we may still need to extend Drupal's taxonomy functionality and this should (perhaps) be done in a new module.

I personally would say that this should be done. Taxonomy (biological) is far more complicated than the taxonomy (Drupal) module is capable of storing. I'm not saying that we should develop a module that is capable of storing taxonomy as complicated as the TCS, but I am saying that it should be able to store taxonomy a little more complicated than a hierarchical list (or multiple hierarchical lists).
